Barber: Lindsey Thomas
Find her: FSC Barber & Supply, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Hair Type: Thick, stubborn, coarse
Combo: Malin + Goetz Sage Styling Cream ($20 for 4 oz., malinandgoetz.com) and Uppercut Deluxe Matte Clay ($24 for 70g, uppercutdeluxe.com)
To achieve: Classic, slicked-back Mad Men style
How and why: “After towel drying, using a styling cream first helps prep and groom the hair. It gives a little of that natural oil weight you get when you don’t shower for a day, and that’ll soften and calm your brawny hair down. Next, run through some of the heavier stuff, like a clay pomade, to lock things into place. You’ll need less of the pomade now since your hair has been pre-chilled.”
